Keisha Lance Bottoms, the soon-to-be senior campaign adviser for Joe Biden, recently made headlines by stating that crypto is a nonpartisan issue. According to Bottoms, crypto is a nonpolitical and unifying topic that has garnered bipartisan support across the United States. She emphasized that crypto and blockchain technologies are transforming the financial system and empowering Black-owned businesses in Atlanta. In addition, Bottoms highlighted the importance of addressing financial inclusion issues that disproportionately affect communities of color who are unbanked or underbanked.

Bottoms shared her views on the crypto industry during the Crypto Votes Atlanta event hosted by Stand With Crypto. She emphasized the need for fair and equitable regulations that make financial products accessible to all communities. Bottoms also expressed her concern about bad actors tarnishing the industry’s reputation and stressed the importance of keeping them out of discussions to protect the industry’s integrity.

Bottoms revealed that her interest in the crypto industry peaked after the ransomware attack on Fulton County by the cybercrime group Lockbit in early 2024. This incident served as her first exposure to crypto and motivated her to delve deeper into understanding its complexities. Despite her upcoming role in Joe Biden’s presidential campaign as a senior adviser, Bottoms has maintained her position on Coinbase’s Global Advisory Council, indicating her continued involvement in the crypto space.

Prior to her upcoming role in Joe Biden’s campaign, Bottoms served as the Director of the Office of Public Engagement in the Biden administration from July 2022 to 2023. She also acted as the President’s Senior Adviser during the same period. From January 2018 to January 2022, Bottoms held the position of Atlanta’s mayor, further solidifying her background in public service.

Keisha Lance Bottoms’ advocacy for financial inclusion and fair regulation in the crypto industry demonstrates her commitment to addressing systemic issues that impact marginalized communities. As she transitions into a new role as Joe Biden’s senior campaign adviser, her experience and insights from the crypto world will likely play a significant role in shaping future policy decisions.
